We are partnering with Harpur Hospital to build their first spaces dedicated wholly to the medical care of children. This is actually two projects in one, and we’ve adopted both due to their integrated nature and impact. There are currently no dedicated healthcare facilities for children. In-patient and out-patient pediatric patients are combined with adults in crowded rooms, using adult-sized equipment and
beds. When children must spend the night in the hospital it brings obvious challenges related to privacy, safety, comfort, and security, as well as mental and emotional well-being. They must share the same sleeping quarters, equipment, beds, and restrooms.
Because space is tight, parents are rarely able to accompany their children. It’s not best medical practice, it’s not safe, and it’s not appropriate.
